Coconut Oil or Sunflower Oil

Just thought I should share this. Since about October I started using Sunflower Oil and gave my usual Coconut Oil a break. The taste was kind of blah but it was cheaper. After a few weeks, the joints in my fingers and my knees were starting to become painful.  After contracting Chic V in 2014, I would have infrequent joint flare-ups.  That’s why I consumed turmeric several times a week. But I would still wake up with nagging joint pains.  I figured this is it for me then, arthritis. But I was thinking about it and something  said “ it’s the oil, dummy”

 I researched Sunflower Oil before I started using it and I read it was good for the heart and is high in vitamin E. But then I found out that sunflower oil is rich in Omega 6. Omega 6 can aggravate arthritis. I ran out and bought my Coconut  Oil, I slathered it on my meal, salad, and even in my coffee. Since that day my joints especially in my hands have been fine. Coconut Oil is high in Omega 3 and is much better for sufferers of joint pain.

Anyway, this helped me, each oil has benefits you have to just find out what works best for you.
Sometimes we need to go within and figure out what our bodies are trying to tell us.

Bone Health

We need to pay attention to our bones. The skeletal system has many functions.    The bones protect the body structurally, protects the organs, and allows movement. With all the wear and tear that we inflict on our bones , we usually don’t notice the damage until it’s too late. As we age we will all lose bone density, but how much is lost may be in our hands,  That creaking in your knees shouldn’t be ignored, . Add some herbs and minerals to your diet. Here is a list of some suggestions, look out for these items while you shop.

Iron and B12

If you are a vegan or vegetarian I implore you to add iron and B12 to your diet. Are you feeling listless or even lightheaded ? These symptoms could be caused by an iron deficiency or a b12 deficiency. Iron and B12 deficiencies can manifest as:Extreme fatigue, weakness , shortness of breath , brittle nails and dry or damaged hair. The fatigue happens because your body lacks the protein called hemoglobin which facilitate carrying oxygen around your body .

We really should try to get our nutrients from food but also find reputable supplements and protect yourself. I was extremely fatigued and dizzy and it turned out to be low iron .

But please seek advice from your physician.

Balancing Hormones with Herbs

Women have so much to deal with as it is. Our moods, weight, skin, everything is controlled by hormones. As our bodies change we should try to find natural ways (if you can ) to manage our bodies. My PMS symptoms run the gamut of symptoms. I’ve used combinations of these herbs with varying effects throughout my life So research and figure out what may help you feel better.

Benefits of Walnuts

Lately, I would say after the last year I’ve become a bit forgetful. Over the past few weeks, my cognitive skills have improved exponentially. What am I doing differently you might ask? I’ve added vitamin A and D to my regimen but I’ve been consuming walnuts. A handful of walnuts a day with cashews and raisins. Could walnuts be the cause of my once foggy brain firing again? Walnuts are rich in alpha-linolenic acid a type of plant-based omega 3 fatty acids. The anti-inflammatory aspects of walnuts can help to fight cognitive disorders as well as diabetes and other ailments. Anyway, I just thought I would share it may be worth a try.

How Are You Coping ?

Well, how are you doing? This year has been very challenging, to say the least. We face sickness, death, financial ruin, displacement, etc.

Has anyone asked you how are you doing?
Some of us are exhausted, depressed, crippled by anxiety, and lonely. So I ask again how are you? How are you coping?

What are your tools for coping during this unprecedented era that we are all living through? What are your self-care methods? Does yoga work for you? It used to work for me, now I have added intense gardening, baking also trying to knit.

Does meditation work or journaling work for you? How are we going to evolve after this is over? Mental health will be the next issue after we get a handle on COVID.
